After the coldness of ‘How Real Is Real?’ I recorded 4 new songs with acoustic guitar and the odd embellishment. Recording-wise it’s pretty shoddy but I think the songs are really good. ‘The Message Tapes’ itself is one of my best. I was trying to convey fleeting moments of a relationship / blurred recollections, much in the way that Roy Harper’s ‘Another Day’ does. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not in the same league as Harper but it’s about as good as I get.
